Q&A about Foreign Student Visa or Non-Immigrant ED Visa

Students or International Students who come to study in Thailand with 4 Months Program or above, are able to apply for Education Visa, including of study language at the school language where is approved by The Ministry of Education.

However, all must be under the rules or  conditions of The Immigration Bureau. There are the answers!

Q : What's Education Visa?

A : Education Visa or Student Visa is the visa for Foreigner who enters to The Kingdom of Thailand for his/her Study, Technical Visit or Study Visit and or Training. They must study at the institution where is permitted by The Ministry of Education before applying for Education Visa. If he/she would like to study and request for temporary stay in Thailand, he/she must contact the school or university to register for be a student and also applying for Education Visa.

Q : How long Education Visa must be extended in case of Foreigner must continue his/her stay for studying in Thailand?

A : Education Visa must be extended at least 30 days in advance before his/her visa expiration. He/she must submit the application to extend his/her stay for studying with maximum 1 year or until the rest of your study period which mentioned in the cover letter from the institution.

Q : What is the  criteria for consideration?

A : There are about 2 criteria.
     1. Foreigner must be granted for Non-ED or already had the stamp of Non-Immigrant ED in his/her passport.
     2.The letter of confirmation and request for temporary stay, issued by the educational institution.

Q : Can foreigner who hold Non-Immigrant ED change type of visa after his/her graduated?

A : No!!! Foreigner cannot change type of Non_Immigrant ED visa. In case of needed, he/she must leave the Kingdom of Thailand.

Q : Does Foreigner or International Student who has permitted to stay in Thailand for 1 year must report for 90 days？

A : Yes! He/she must report every 90 days with Form TM 47 at the office of Immigration Bureau where located in his/her local area.

Q : What type of visa for Foreigner must apply for his/her study in Thailand? What are the documents to be submitted for request to stay in Thailand?

A : Type of visa must be Non-Immigrant ED Visa only.
     -For study in a Government or Private Educational Institution.
     1.1 In case of study in Government Educational Institute.
          - Copy of applicant's passport.
          - Letter of confirmation issued by the Educational Institution which shows detailed and information about applicant's years education, level of of curriculum and educational achievement.
     1.2 In case of study in Private Educational Institute.
          - Copy of applicant's passport.
          - Copy of Evidence of permission to establish the educational institution issued by the relevant government agency.
          - Letter of confirmation issued by the Educational Institution which shows detailed and information about applicant's years education, level of of curriculum and educational achievement.
          - Confirmation Letter issued by a government agency at the department level or by the Provincial Governor in-charge of that particular institute (Except in the case of enrollment in an international school or in case of higher education).

Q : In case of study in International Institution, what are the documents to be submitted for Non-ED Visa Extension?

A : 1. Copy of applicant's passport
     2. Copy of Evidence of permission to establish the educational institution issued by the relevant government agency.
     3. Letter of confirmation issued by the Educational Institution which shows detailed and information about applicant's years education, level of of curriculum and educational achievement.

Q : Can student who is granted for Non-ED visa work for Part Time Job?

A : No! He/she cannot work for Part Time Job because of the condition of Non-ED Visa.

Q : Foreigner who enters to Thailand with Tourist Visa can change type of visa to be Student Visa or Non-Immigrant ED Visa or not?

A : Yes! He / She can change type of visa with certify the documents from Educational institution and slip payment of Tuition Fee. 

Q : What should foreigner do if he/she would like to study in Thailand? ( In case of he/she does not arrive Thailand)

A : He/She must contact the Educational Institution for selecting the needed Program and pay for Tuition Fee. After that the Educational Institute will send him/her the documents to be submitted for applying visa. However, foreigner is able to apply for Non-Immigrant ED Visa at Royal Thai Embassy where located in his/her country. (Consideration is at the Embassy's discretion)
