What are the Required Documents?

Foreigners who enter Thailand through various factors, whether the purpose is work, study, travel or marry a Thai person must enter Thailand legally. Most of the time, foreigners who enter legally will enter as a tourist visa and change the type of visa to a work visa or another type of visa later. You can apply for a change of visa type but it depends on the reason for the foreigner. It is important that the foreigner has to hold a Tourist Visa or Transit Visa only, and the previous visa must not expire to change the visa type.

The qualification of an applicant for a change of type of visa

• Person who has a Tourist or Transit Visa only such as Non-O visa and other types of visa cannot change to a Non-B visa.
• The visa must have a minimum period of 15 days.

Supporting documents for changing type of visa

Visa Category / Supporting Documents

1. Change the visa for Working (Non-B). The documents to be submitted more than 15 days before visa expiration.

1. Form TM.86 for the foreigner, who has Tourist and Transit Visa and applies for non-immigrant visa; or
   Form TM.87 for the foreigner, who is allowed to stay in Thailand with a permit of stay for a period of 15 days, 30 days, 90 days and applies for a non-immigrant visa.
2. A copy of passport
3. One 4×6cm photograph
4. Application fee of Baht 2,000
5. The Company’s letter explaining the necessity of employing of foreigner and requesting cooperation in obtaining Visa or Visa Status Alteration (please specify the company’s name, applicant’s name, job title, knowledge, skills, competency, and reasons for Visa or Visa Status Alteration (NON-B))
6. Form of employment certification (According to the Department of Employment)
7. A copy of the Company Certificate (certified by the Registrar, not more than 6 months)
8. A copy of the Company registration certificate
9. A copy of the List of Shareholders (Bor.Aor.Jor.5)
10. A copy of the Value Added Tax (VAT) registration certificate (Paw. Por. 20), the Value Added Tax Registrant Form (Paw. Por. 01), and Memorandum of Association
11. A copy of the latest financial statements
12. A copy of the corporate income tax return (PND. 50)
13. If the PND. 50 (page 5, line 3) does not specify the cost of water and electricity, including the new company, has not completed the accounting period, no financial statement, and PND.50. it should be present a rental contract, water bill, electricity bill, and telephone bill.
14. Proof of educational background and work history and certified by the embassy and the Legalization Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
15. A copy of the withholding income tax of Thai employees (PND.1) for the last 3 months.
16. Photographs showing the location of the business including the address and the sign of company name, furniture, working conditions, the employee while working amount 7-10 photos.

18. If the company is BOI promoted, please present a letter requesting cooperation from the Office of the Board of Investment, Industrial Estate, or the Petroleum Authority of Thailand. If not, please show the position approval letter from the BOI instead.

2. Change the visa for working as a Teacher (Non-B). If you have overstayed, you are not allowed to submit an application for this type of visa.

1. Form TM.86 for the foreigner, who has Tourist and Transit Visa and applies for non-immigrant visa; or
   Form TM.87 for the foreigner, who is allowed to stay in Thailand with a permit of stay for a period of 15 days, 30 days, 90 days and applies for a non-immigrant visa.
2. A copy of passport
3. One 4×6cm photograph
4. Application fee of Baht 2,000
5. Government Educational Institution:
   
   • Bachelor Degree and above
     
     • A cooperation letter from the dean (or higher) of university or from the director of academic institute lower than university for visa or visa status alteration.
   • Below Bachelor Degree
     • A cooperation letter from the relevant department attached to the Ministry of Education or from the governor in the case of an academic institute lower than university or from the office of educational service area for visa or visa status alteration.
     • Form of employment certification (According to the Department of Employment)
     • A copy of the employment contract (effective on the date of the application)
     • A copy of the Applicant's Educational Background (must be original)
6. Private Educational Institution
   
   • Bachelor Degree and above
     
     • Certificate of Visa Application or Change the Type of Visa from the Chancellor of Higher Education Institutions.
   • Below Bachelor Degree
     
     • Certificate of Visa Application or Change the Type of Visa from a government agency in department-level under the Ministry of Education or the Provincial Governor at lower levels than Higher Education or Educational Service Area Office, International School.
     • Certificate of Visa Application or Change the Type of Visa from Principal or Manager
     • Form of employment certification (According to the Department of Employment)
     • A copy of the employment contract (effective on the date of the application)
     • A copy of the Applicant's Educational Background (must be original)
     • A copy of the license for establishment of the academic institute (the authorized signatory to certified a copy with Seal)
     • A copy of the license to perform duty as management, manager, principal, and director or the academic institute (the authorized signatory to certified a copy with Seal)

3. Change the visa for Sports Coach or Athlete (NON-O). If you have overstayed, you are not allowed to submit an application for this type of visa.

1. Form TM.86 for the foreigner, who has Tourist and Transit Visa and applies for non-immigrant visa; or
   Form TM.87 for the foreigner, who is allowed to stay in Thailand with a permit of stay for a period of 15 days, 30 days, 90 days and applies for a non-immigrant visa.
2. A copy of passport
3. One 4×6cm photograph
4. Application fee of Baht 2,000
5. Letter from the Sports Authority of Thailand concerned requesting for Visa or Visa Status Alteration
6. A set of license for the establishment of the Association

4. Change the visa for retirement purposes (Non-O). If you have overstayed, you are not allowed to submit an application for this type of visa.

1. Form TM.86 for the foreigner, who has Tourist and Transit Visa and applies for non-immigrant visa; or
   Form TM.87 for the foreigner, who is allowed to stay in Thailand with a permit of stay for a period of 15 days, 30 days, 90 days and applies for a non-immigrant visa.
2. A copy of passport
3. One 4×6cm photograph
4. Application fee of Baht 2,000
5. A letter of guarantee from the bank in Thailand in the Thai language
   
   • Copy of all entries of the applicant’s passbook showing that the applicant has a savings or fixed deposit account of not less than Baht
     800,000 at least 3 months
   • Evidence of foreign currency fund transferred to Thailand
6. A letter of guarantee from the local or overseas Embassy or Consulate that proving the monthly pension of the Applicant not less than Baht 65,000 per month

Note: Evidence of deposited money under Clause 5 and evidence of income under Clause 6 (for one year) showing the total amount not less than Baht 800,000

5. Change the visa for fulfilling the duty or responsibility as an immediate family member of a foreigner (NON-O). If you have overstayed, you are not allowed to submit an application for this type of visa.

1. Form TM.86 for the foreigner, who has Tourist and Transit Visa and applies for non-immigrant visa; or
   Form TM.87 for the foreigner, who is allowed to stay in Thailand with a permit of stay for a period of 15 days, 30 days, 90 days and applies for a non-immigrant visa.
2. A copy of passport
3. One 4×6cm photograph
4. Application fee of Baht 2,000
5. Copy of certificate of marriage or birth certificate (certified by Consulate of the foreigner in Thailand and by the Legalization Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
   
   • Letter from the embassy or consulate certifying that the applicant is a member of the referred family such as father, mother, or children.
   • Letter of certification from the Department of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
6. Copy of passport and copy of a Work Permit of the person who fulfills the duty or responsibility in the Kingdom
7. The Company’s registration certificate, with the details of the company’s business objectives
8. A copy of the Certificate of Value Added Tax registration
9. A copy of the List of the Shareholders (If any)
10. A copy of the list of withholding income tax of Thai employees (Form Por.Ngor.Dor.1) for the last 3 months
11. A copy of the list of withholding income tax of the foreigner (Form Por.Ngor.Dor. 91) for the latest year

6. Change the visa for providing support to or being a dependant of a Thai citizen - Spouse Visa (Non-O). The documents to be submitted more than 15 days before visa expiration.

1. Form TM.86 for the foreigner, who has Tourist and Transit Visa and applies for non-immigrant visa; or
   Form TM.87 for the foreigner, who is allowed to stay in Thailand with a permit of stay for a period of 15 days, 30 days, 90 days and applies for non-immigrant visa.
2. A copy of passport
3. One 4×6cm photograph
4. Application fee of Baht 2,000
5. In case of marriage registered in Thailand, please show:
   
   • Marriage certificate (Form Kor Ror.2)
   • Marriage certificate (Form Kor Ror.3)
6. In case of marriage registered in a foreign country, please show:
   • Marriage certificate registered in overseas country
   • Family status registration (Form Kor Ror.22)
7. A copy of the letter certifying that the applicant is single
8. A copy of national ID card and a copy of house registration papers of Thai national
9. A copy of the Birth Certificate, or Pregnancy Verification Letter from a physician, or the Pregnancy Book (stated father and mother name)
10. Approximately 4-5 photographs of a traditional wedding ceremony (if any)

7. Change the visa for the following foreigners who study in Thailand (Non-O). If you have overstayed, you are not allowed to submit an application for this type of visa.

1. Form TM.86 for the foreigner, who has Tourist and Transit Visa and applies for non-immigrant visa; or
   Form TM.87 for the foreigner, who is allowed to stay in Thailand with a permit of stay for a period of 15 days, 30 days, 90 days and applies for a non-immigrant visa.
2. A copy of passport
3. One 4×6cm photograph
4. Application fee of Baht 2,000
5. Copy of certificate of marriage or birth certificate (certified by Consulate of the foreigner in Thailand and by the Legalization Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
   
   • Letter from the embassy or consulate certifying that the applicant is a member of the referred family such as father, mother, or children.
   • Letter of certification from the Department of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
6. In the case of children studying and parents will follow to take care their kid, please show:
   
   • A letter of guarantee from the bank in Thailand with a copy of all entries of the applicant’s passbook showing that the applicant has a savings or fixed deposit account of not less than Baht

7. Certificate of Visa Application or Change the Type of Visa from Principal or Manager of applicant that their kid studying in Thailand
8. Passport of their kid who studying in Thailand

8. Change the visa for education (NON-ED). If you have overstayed, you are not allowed to submit an application for this type of visa.

1. Form TM.86 for the foreigner, who has Tourist and Transit Visa and applies for non-immigrant visa; or
   Form TM.87 for the foreigner, who is allowed to stay in Thailand with a permit of stay for a period of 15 days, 30 days, 90 days and applies for a non-immigrant visa.
2. A copy of passport
3. One 4×6cm photograph
4. Application fee of Baht 2,000
5. Government Educational Institution:
   
   • Bachelor Degree and above

Remarks:

• The Applicant must sign to certify on every page of the Applicant’s documents.
• The authorized signatory of the Company or Limited Partnership must sign to certify all corporate documents and have them stamped with the official company/limited partnership seal on every page.
• To be convenient and for speedy service, the Applicant for visa or visa status alteration must arrange and submit a complete set of documents in proper order and must prepare the originals as proof.
