What is the information about work visas in Thailand and how many types?

Currently, Thailand has different types of visas to meet the needs and qualifications of each business person that includes Business Visa types B, B-A, and Investment and Business IB. Those who hold this kind of visa and want to work in Thailand must obtain a work permit first. 

For foreigners interested in working in Thailand but do not know what type of visa you will need to do, Wonderful Package would like to introduce information about different types of Visa Non-B as follows.

Non-Immigrant Visa Category “B

1. Non-Immigrant “B” visa (Business Visa) is issued for foreigners wishing to enter Thailand to work or do business.

Foreigners wishing to work in Thailand must present the following documents.

  • Passport or Travel documents with a validity of at least 6 months
  • Fill out a visa application form
  • Recent passport size (4 x 6 cm) photograph of the applicant within the past 6 months.
  • Proof of educational background and work history
  • Sufficient financial evidence (20,000 baht per person and 40,000 baht per family).
  • Certificate from the Ministry of Labor (To receive this letter, the applicant's employer in Thailand must submit the TM.3 form at the Foreign Labor Office, Department of Employment, Ministry of Labor, or at the Provincial Employment Office in that province).
  • Copy of a Work Permit from the Ministry of Labor, and foreign income tax or PND 91 (only if the applicant has previously worked in Thailand).
  • Supporting documents of companies employed in Thailand are:
    1. Business Registration and Business License
    2. List of Shareholders (Bor.Aor.Jor. 5)
    3. Company Information
    4. Details of Business Operations
    5. List of Foreign Workers stating name, nationality, and position
    6. Company Location Map
    7. Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Business Tax (PND 50 and Phor. Por 30 of the latest year)
    8. VAT Registration (Por. Por 20)

2. Non-Immigrant “B” visa (Business Visa) is issued to foreigners who wish to undertake business in Thailand must present the following documents.

  • Passport or Travel documents with a validity of at least 6 months
  • Fill out a visa application form
  • Recent passport size (4 x 6 cm) photograph of the applicant within the past 6 months.
  • Sufficient financial evidence (20,000 baht per person and 40,000 baht per family) during stay in Thailand.
  • Letter from the applicant's company stating the applicant's position, age, salary, and purpose of visit to Thailand.
  • Documents showing contact with business partners in Thailand.
  • Evidence of financial status if the applicant is self-employed
  • Invitation letter from trade or partner/associate in Thailand
  • Business partner or company documents involved in Thailand, for example
    1. Business Registration and Business License
    2. List of Shareholders (Bor.Aor.Jor. 5)
    3. Company Information
    4. Details of Business Operations
    5. Company Location Map
    6. Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Business Tax (PND 50 and Phor. Por 30 of the latest year)
    7. VAT Registration (Por. Por 20)

**Remarks

  • Foreigners who obtain Non-Immigrant Visa “B” from the Embassy / Consulate-General, when travel to Thailand they have to contact the Office of Foreign Workers Administration to apply for a Work Permit. After obtaining a Work Permit, they can work in Thailand.
  • Copy of Company documents must sign by the Board of Directors or Managing Director who has authority and seal the company.
  • They might request more documents as necessary. If you don't have the required documents, applicants have to send a letter of explanation why the documents are not complete. Applicants must certify a copy of the documents submitted on every page. Foreign language documents must translate into Thai and should certify by the Diplomatic or Consulate of Thailand in the country of residence.
  • The holder of this visa is entitled to stay in Thailand for a maximum period of 90 days and must apply to the Immigration Office at least 30 days before the expiration of the period of stay in Thailand to extend the stay for 1 year.
  • Document indicating the number of Foreign Tourists (For Tourism Businesses only) or export transaction documents issued by the Bank. (For Export Business only)

3. Non-Immigrant “B” visa (Investment and Business Visas) is issued to foreigners who wish to work with a BOI company.

Non-Immigrant Visas with “IB” code (Investment and Business Visas) for foreigners working in investment projects under the auspices of the Board of Investment (BOI).
The said project must relevant or beneficial to Thailand in the following ways.

  • Export Promotion
  • Increase Employment
  • Using Local Ingredients
  • Projects with participation in other provinces
  • Promote technology transfer to Thai people
  • Do not interfere with existing domestic business.

List of Supporting Documents

  • A letter from the Office of Investment Promotion (BOI) to promoted companies
  • List of approved foreign nationals

4. Non-Immigrant “B” visa (Teachers) is issued to foreigners who wish to work as a school teacher at a lower level than a university level in Thailand.

List of Supporting Documents
- Passport or Travel documents with a validity of at least 6 months
- Fill out a visa application form
- Recent passport size (4 x 6 cm) photograph of the applicant within the past 6 months.
- Proof of educational background and work history
- Applicant's curriculum vitae
- Acceptance Letter from the employment institution or school in Thailand
- Certificate from a Government Agency such as the Office of the Private Education Commission, the Office of the Basic Education Commission
- School License or Business Registration, List of Shareholders, and School Profile
- Police Certificate confirming that the applicant has no criminal record or equivalent, or a letter issued by the authorized agency in the applicant's country. (The requirement to send a Police Certificate is optional, the applicant must apply if the consular officer requests this action, this requirement has been in effect since May 2007.)

5. Non-Immigrant “B-A” visa (Business Approved Visa) is issued to foreigners who wish to contact the business or become a Business Consultant which eligibility under the jurisdiction of the Immigration Bureau.

The company that the applicant will invest in or operate business may apply for this type of visa on behalf of the applicant at the Immigration Bureau. Once the application is approved, the Immigration Bureau will notify the relevant Embassy or Consulate-General through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue a visa to the applicant. Holders of a "B-A" visa have permission to stay in Thailand for a period of 1 year from the date of first entry into the country.

  • Fill out a visa application form
  • Recent passport size (4 x 6 cm) photograph of the applicant within the past 6 months.
  • Letter from the applicant's company stating the applicant's position, period of employment, salary, and purpose of visiting Thailand / invitation letter from trade or related partner/company in Thailand.
  • Documents showing contact with business partners in Thailand
  • Evidence of financial status if the applicant is the owner of the business
  • Documents of Business partner or company documents involved in Thailand, for example
    1. Business Registration and Business License
    2. List of Shareholders (Bor.Aor.Jor. 5)
    3. Company Information, Details of Business Operations
    4. List of foreign workers with names, nationalities, and positions
    5. Company Location Map
    6. Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Business Tax (PND 50 and Phor. Por 30 of the latest year)
    7. VAT Registration (Por. Por 20)

** Note

  • Copies of company documents must sign by the Board of Directors or the Managing Director who has the authority to sign and affix the company's seal.
  • Additional documents may be requested as required. In the absence of such documents, applicants must provide an explanatory letter.
  • Applicants must certify a copy of the documents submitted on every page. Foreign language documents must translate into Thai and certified by a lawyer organization or by the Thai embassy/consulate in the country of residence.
  • Holders of this type of visa are entitled to stay in Thailand for a maximum period of 90 days. They must apply for an extension of stay at the Immigration Bureau at least 30 days before the expiration of their stay.
  • Document indicating the number of Foreign Tourists (For Tourism Businesses only) or export transaction documents issued by the Bank. (For Export Business only)
