What is Passport, Visa, and Work Permit? How its difference?

1. Passport is a travel document, issued by the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has personal information such as name, date of birth, province of birth, gender, nationality, etc.

There are 4 types of passports.

1. Ordinary Passport	Maroon	5 years	For international travel such as vacations or study overseas.
2. Official Passport	Dark Blue	5 years	For international travel as government employee.
3. Diplomatic Passport	Red	5 years	For Thai royal family members or top-level government officials such as prime minister, President of the Privy Council, privy counselor, President of the supreme court, etc.
4. Temporary Passport	Green	1 year	In case of lost passport or passport expired. (Some countries do not accept this type of passports.)

Visa is an official document that allows foreigners who do not have citizenship of that country enter to the country, which is issued by the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in each country or Immigration Bureau. When you are allowed, there will be stamps or stickers on the passport. Some countries have visa exceptions that not need an international visa but it has a period of stay according to the conditions in that country.

There are 7 types and rules for visa.

Non-Visa type can be divided into 10 categories.

3. Work Permit is a legal document allowed foreigner to work legally in Thailand to do business or work as employee issued by Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour. You must meet the condition and criteria of the Department of Employment and submit complete documents by received the result within 3 working days and the work permit period is approximately 3 months - 1 year. Also, the employer must notify that employee get to work within 15 days from the date you known the result.

Working as an employee, you must inform the type of business/employer. The employer can separate into 5 categories.

Private organization
Private School / Private University
Government Office
Foundation or Association
Business of filming or making movies from foreign countries
